Laura Baxter

I graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University in 1996 having studied BA (Hons) Three Dimensional Design. Straight after graduation I set up my business and I have exhibited internationally ever since. My work is collected and exhibited in galleries and retail outlets across the UK, Europe, USA, and Japan. I regularly take part in fairs and exhibitions, both in the UK & USA.

Throughout my career I have had workshops in Manchester, Brighton and Leeds. I now live and work from a studio in Clumber Park, a beautiful National Trust Estate in rural Nottinghamshire.

I also have a shared workshop at the Harley Foundation Workshop & Studios on the Welbeck Estate.

In 2008 my work took a new direction when I exhibited large scale wall based metalwork at the prestigious COLLECT, London and SOFA Chicago. In 2009 my first major public art commission, ‘Leaf Fall’ was completed for the new atrium space at the Charles Rennie Mackintosh designed house, 78 Derngate, Northampton. In 2010, I was selected by museumaker to design and make over 60 metal filigree birds, inspired by the museum’s collections, for the parterre gardens at the Bowes Museum in County Durham.

I continue to practice and experiment with making large scale metalwork, but it is my passion for making small things, specifically jewellery, that will always be my principal identity as a maker.
